Welcome to Mary's Place by the Sea

PROVIDING A PLACE FOR WOMEN WITH CANCER TO HEAL:
MIND, BODY, AND SOUL

The Vision of Mary's Place by the Sea is a world where every woman with cancer has a PLACE to feel whole.

Mary’s Place by the Sea is a respite home for women who are receiving treatment for cancer.  We provide services that complement their medical treatment, including oncology massage, nutrition education, individual counseling, Reiki, guided meditation, expressive writing, and yoga.  Mary’s Place by the Sea is not a medical facility with medical staff.  We offer integrative services to women with cancer and provide rest and support during this challenging time in their lives. They are empowered with knowledge that will aid them on their road to healing.

Since 2009, 10,000 women with cancer have become "guests" of Mary's Place by the Sea.

Our new home is located at 22 Main Avenue in Ocean Grove. Please call 732-455-5344 for more information.

COVID-19 UPDATE  (6/24/2020)

At this time, Mary's Place by the Sea remains closed to guests. In light of the recent travel restrictions in the state of New Jersey, and the spike in COVID-19 cases around the country, we felt it was pertinent for us to cancel all visits scheduled for the month of July. While we had hoped to welcome guests this month, the health and well being of the women we serve is our first priority and we feel strongly that this is the best decision for their safety.

Our reopening protocol is in place and we are confident that when the time is right, we will be able to open our home in the safest way possible for our guests, volunteers, staff and practitioners. At this time, we hope to have a soft "re-opening" in the month of August. However, it is a very fluid situation and we will continue to monitor the recommendations by the CDC and Governor Murphy.

Mary's Place by the Sea continues to offer Virtual Services through the month of July.

Reopening Protocol for Guests

Screening
As a guest, you will receive a phone call prior to your arrival. We will ask you the following questions:

1. Have you traveled or been in an airplane in the last 14 days?
2. Has anyone in your household or anyone you have been in contact with (including health care workers) traveled in the past 14 days?
3. Have you had contact with someone who has contracted COVID-19 or is under investigation (PUI) for COVID-19?
4. Do you have symptoms of respiratory infection: cough, sore throat, fever, aching, shortness of breath?

Upon arrival to Mary’s Place, you will be met by a staff member at the door and asked the above questions again. If you answer yes to any of these questions, prior to your stay or when you arrive, we will need to ask you to reschedule your visit. You will also have your temperature taken. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or greater will not be allowed to remain in the home. If you are staying overnight, you will have your temperature checked again the the following morning. If at any time during your stay you develop a fever, you will be asked to leave immediately. All volunteers and staff will also be screened and will have their temperatures each time they enter the home.

Doctor’s Clearance- Recommended to Attend
We highly recommend that you reach out to your oncologist to ask for their blessing to visit Mary’s Place by the Sea. We feel that having your doctor’s input will give you peace of mind in your travels to our home after months of isolation.

Doctor’s Note- Mandatory for Massage and Reflexology
If you wish to have an oncology massage or reflexology during your visit, a doctor’s not is REQUIRED. Please have your Doctor indicate that you are cleared for these services on their letterhead or on a script pad. You may email the letter to guest@marysplacebythesea.org or fax to 732-361-0135.

Travel
At this time, we feel strongly that all guests must be able to travel to Mary’s Place by the Sea via car, train or bus. We are unable to accept guests traveling by airplane at this time, as we believe it is paramount for you to be close to your treatment team during these uncertain times.

Masks
Everyone will need to wear a mask at all times while in Mary’s Place. Mary’s Place by the Sea will provide you with a clean mask to wear throughout your retreat.

Hand Sanitizer
Mary’s Place will provide “no-touch” hand sanitizers stations throughout the home for your use. We also encourage you to practice frequent hand washing.

Cleaning/Common Areas
The house will undergo a medical grade cleaning twice per week, in between our overnight retreats. In addition, volunteers and practitioners will be trained to clean the various common areas, service rooms and spa spaces, throughout the day and between sessions. Volunteers will pay special attention to high traffic areas and wipe down door knobs, elevator buttons, railings in the stairwells and push bars on doors, as well as other frequently touched areas in the home.

Guests will be asked to use the bathroom in their bedroom while visiting Mary’s Place. Our day guests will be assigned a bathroom when they arrive.

Capacity
Mary’s Place by the Sea will significantly reduce the number of people in the home daily; At this time we are welcoming a maximum of 6 overnight guests for each retreat. We are also limiting the number of volunteers and practitioners coming in and out of the home on a given day.

Services & Social Distancing
Individual and Group Services will allow for social distancing (6 ft apart) between guests and practitioners. The only exceptions to this will be for oncology massage, reiki therapy and reflexology. If you are receiving oncology massage, you may remove your mask when lying on your stomach.

Some group services may be broken into two groups for sessions such as yoga, and in some instances a practitioner may host sessions like yoga and meditation live on a video rather than in-person.

Please also note that some services that are usually offered may not be available during your visit. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these times.

Dining
The opportunity for spreading germs is most prevalent during mealtime as you will not be wearing a mask. Mary’s Place will significantly reduce the number of guests dining together to a maximum of 3 in one seating area, to allow for proper social distancing. We will provide individual tray tables if you would like to eat on the front porch as well.

Gloves and masks will be worn in the kitchen during meal prep and service.
