Dear Friend of Mary's Place,
As we continue to reflect on our ten-year journey, we remember 2012 as a year of both growth and excitement.
In May of 2012, we held our FIRST Walk-A-Thon, which would become our first annual fundraising event. We asked our dear friend and fundraising extraordinaire, Clare Freda, to volunteer as the Walk-A-Thon Chair Person. We charged her with gathering all of our closest friends, volunteers, and board members for the event. Of course, Clare and her committee went above
and beyond. Our community rallied and brought their friends and family members... over 400 people came out to walk and raise funds with us!
Today, Clare is our full-time office manager who wears multiple hats in a given day and she still volunteers as our Walk-A-Thon Chair Person in her "spare time"! Most of the original committee members are still active and every year they put their blood, sweat and tears into putting together a Walk-A-Thon to top the year from before. We asked Clare to share her
thoughts on that first annual event...
“As I take a few minutes to reflect on 2012 when Michele asked me to launch their 1st Annual Walk-A-Thon event for Mary's Place by the Sea, I am in awe of all that we have accomplished since that time. The growth of the mission and the event is a true testament to a vision that has become a reality. The love and support that
we give and receive everyday sends a powerful message to the community at large. We have seen many of the same guests, family and friends return to walk with us year after year, this sends a very special message to all the women we serve! Our volunteers are also a lifeline and we couldn't do this without their help! Our goal remains the same, which is to continue to
keep our services at "no cost" to our guests. Also, to build on new programs to benefit our guests and the mission of Mary's Place! By walking, running or donating you can make an impact in the lives women with cancer!”
Now that the weather is warmer and will hopefully stay, let's meet on Ocean Pathway for the 8th Annual Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, May 18th! We are still accepting walker and runner registrations, in addition to vendor and sponsorship applications! If you cannot attend, but wish to donate, please know that your gift will help us to keep our services free for our
guests.
Please also save the date for our 10 Year Anniversary Celebration at Asbury Lanes on Saturday, October 19th. We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with all of you.
