A Message from our Co-Founder

  • Hello! As I sit and write to you on a cold, rainy February day, it is a much different scene inside Mary's Place by the Sea.

  • Sister Joanne has just finished a conversation-filled breakfast with our guests, before sending each of them off to their respective guest services. In the kitchen, Cathy is preparing an incredible lunch. Three volunteers, Tina, Jo and Holly, are helping Cathy, and setting the dining room table for lunch. Laurie is preparing her nutrition education session. Susan is in the counseling room meeting with a guest; Patti is in the spa providing a massage; Malin is chatting with a guest about her schedule of services; Beth is fielding calls for upcoming visits; Clare and Kara are working on fine-tuning the walk-a-thon materials; Felicia is preparing an expressive writing session for our guests, while putting the finishing touches on a grant application, and Maria - my partner in crime - is scheduling practitioners for guest services, while tag-teaming with me as things inevitably pop up throughout day. This is Mary's Place. Each day women arrive here ready to give of themselves and each day women arrive here hoping to be heard. As I write these words, I realize, we are one in the same...
  • My favorite part of our most recent video is the scene from one of our bedrooms where the doors are FLUNG open. This is how I feel every day as we continue to grow our Mary's Place community. We fling wide the doors each day, welcoming local volunteers and guests from all over the country. As long as there is cancer, there is a need that Mary's Place by the Sea will strive to fulfill. Our mission will continue to grow to meet that need, wherever the journey may take us...
